Stassen started his professional career at the Bulls and was a Junior Springbok in 2017.

He stands 2.00m in his socks and will offer crucial versatility to the Stormers.

Stormers coach John Dobson said Stassen has been training hard and is keen to make an impact.

"Hendre has shown a great attitude since joining us, he is a hard-worker who is ready to give everything for the team.

"We are looking forward to seeing the impact he can make both in the second row and on the side of the scrum for us," Dobson said.

Stassen added that he was honoured to join the Cape franchise.

"It has been great to connect with my new team-mates in the pre-season and I am very grateful for the opportunity I have been given to represent the Stormers.

"I want to make the most of it and show my commitment to the team," Stassen said.

Stassen's signing is one of several new deals announced by the Stormers in recent  times. Loosehead props Sti Sithole and Lizo Gqoboka, and outside backs Courtnall Skosan and Ben Loader, are also on board.

The Stormers are set for a pre-season camp in Wilderness in the Southern Cape where they will play two friendlies against South Western Districts and a game against the Sharks.

The camp will take place at the end of September and beginning of October. The Stormers start their URC campaign against the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday, 21 October.
