Former Harrods worker claims there's 'rules' they have to follow if a celeb comes in
A former Harrods employee has disclosed the strict rules regarding interactions with celebrity customers at the luxury department store.
Maggie Anne, a beauty content creator who worked at the London store for two years, shared her experiences on TikTok. She revealed that Harrods has stringent policies in place to ensure celebrities feel like "normal people" when shopping there.
According to Maggie, new employees undergo a two or three-day training period where they learn how to handle celebrity customers. She said: "They are very strict on their rules. They do not want you to stray or go against what they say like it's a very, very strict policy."
The rules dictate that employees should not acknowledge a celebrity's fame. For instance, if serving David Beckham, an employee is not allowed to let him know that they recognise him or express fandom.
Maggie further stated that employees are "definitely not allowed to ask for a picture". She mentioned a rumour about a Harrods employee being dismissed for requesting a photo with a celebrity, but she couldn't confirm how accurate this is as she said she didn't know the individual personally.
However, she admitted she "wouldn't be surprised" if it were true. She explained: "The reason that they have that kind of rule around celebrities is they want celebrities to go in there feeling like 'normal people' and I feel like it's a little bit unprofessional, I guess, to, as a sales associate, be fangirling over someone when they come in to the store like they just want to shop and do their business, they don't want to be doing a meet and greet with you."
