Former Coventry City and Arsenal prospect completes 'perfect' transfer

Former Coventry City goalkeeper Corey Addai has found a new club after completing the "perfect" move for his career.

The 24-year-old has joined Crawley Town as a free agent after a successful trial with the West Sussex outfit. He featured in the team's first pre-season game against Eastbourne last weekend, keeping a clean sheet in the process.

The Jamaican joined the Sky Blues as a teenager in 2014 after being released by Arsenal. He spent six years at the club but never made a senior appearance.

Loan spells at Mickleover and Telford United never led to first-team opportunities, and so he was released in January 2020. He joined Barnsley later that year but again was sent out on loan, that time to Chesterfield.

Addai departed the Tykes last year, joining Danish side Esbjerg on a free transfer. He made just four league appearances before being released.

Now he has returned to England to play League Two football next season, although this week he is in Spain as part of Crawley's pre-season training camp. “It feels very good to get the deal done," he told the Sussex Express.

"I think that this is a very good club to be at. I have been here for over a week now, and I have really enjoyed my time, so it made sense for me to get the deal over the line.

"When Crawley came up, I knew it was the perfect option for me. Being a young pro, I am very happy to be here at a club like Crawley."

Reds boss Kevin Betsy confirmed that Addai has been drafted in as the number two shot stopper, but was effusive in his praise of the former City player upon confirmation of the deal.
