Former City defender Lescott not reading too much into likely World Cup disruptions for PL sides

Former England international Joleon Lescott believes English Premier League teams will be dealt the same hand when they welcome some of their players back from the fast approaching World Cup, which commences in Qatar next month.

The league will play its final round of fixtures on the weekend of 12 and 13 November, before resuming on 26 December. The league's final match day of the current season will be 28 May 2023.

A raft of players, from across the teams in the Premier League may find themselves representing their home nations at the global showpiece event, and league coaches will hope their players turn up, with the effects of having a good tournament directly spilling onto club teams.

On the other hand, there is a danger of players being off-form or worse still, picking up injuries which may destabilise their campaigns.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are currently setting the pace at the top of the league, with defending champions Manchester City breathing on their necks.

Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United complete the top five going into this weekend.

Lescott, who is currently in the country on a Manchester City trophy tour, broached the subject of potential disruptions:
