Former Celtic stars among 'frontrunners' for Motherwell job

Motherwell are on the hunt for a new manager after Stuart Kettlewell's shock resignation yesterday and, according to one bookmaker, former Celtic captains Scott Brown and Neil Lennon are the current frontrunners.

The Steelmen have begun their search for the club's fourth manager in the last three years and McBookie have current Ayr United boss - who turned down a move to `Well's Premiership rivals St Johnstone earlier in the season - as the 4/1 favourite.

Former Celtic and Hibs gaffer Lennon is 5/1 with John McGlynn, manager of Championship leaders Falkirk, at 6/1 alongside former Rangers striker and ex-Hearts boss Steven Naismith. Livingston gaffer David Martindale is among the contenders.

There has been reports that former Australia national team boss Graham Arnold is keen to suceed Stuart Kettlewell at Motherwell, although his name does not appear on the latest odds.

Arnold was in charge of the Socceroos at the 2022 World Cup and won the A-League Premiership in his homeland with Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC.

Glasgow World say he is "keen to work in Europe and would welcome the chance to speak with the Motherwell hieararchy."

Kettlewell approached Motherwll chief executive Brian Caldwell on Monday and asked to step down from the position, citing personal abuse from fans and the effects it had on his family.
