Former Canterbury City boss Danny Lawrence named new manager of Southern Counties East Premier Division club Glebe
Former Canterbury City boss Danny Lawrence has landed a new managerial role.
Lawrence, who resigned at City after three years in charge in March with the club accepting voluntary relegation from Southern Counties East League Division 1 in order to return to playing in Canterbury, takes charge at Glebe ahead of their 2025/26 season.
The Foxbury Avenue-based Southern Counties East Premier Division club confirmed Lawrence’s appointment on Friday evening.
They said: “Dan brings with him a clear vision for attractive, attacking football, a proven commitment to developing our outstanding young talent, and the ability to recruit top-quality players.
“We’re excited about the journey ahead and can’t wait to see the progress under his leadership.”
Lawrence, 37, said: “Absolutely delighted to be on board and to be given this opportunity.
“[A] hugely exciting project.”
He replaces Fred Dillon, who left Glebe after one season at the helm. They came 14th in their 2024/25 campaign.
Lawrence, a former Canterbury City captain, was first appointed as their manager in December 2022 and oversaw almost 100 games in that time, finishing with a sixth-placed 2024/25 Division 1 finish.
He was also a fans’ favourite at Herne Bay in his playing days where he made 250 appearances, having made his club debut in April 2005.
Lawrence turned out for Faversham - who lost to Maidstone in the 2012/13 Isthmian League Division 1 South play-off final at the end of his one season at the club - Whitstable and Ramsgate, too.
