'For all we know' - Journalist claims Aston Villa star could even be gone 'tomorrow'

Journalist Dan Rolinson has claimed on the Claret and Blue podcast that Aston Villa star man Tyrone Mings could leave this summer as there are worries he could find himself on the bench just one season after captaining the side.

The former Bournemouth man has been crucial for Villa since he arrived, playing 36 games in the Premier League this season but there are growing worries that the addition of new players this summer at the position could lead to him facing more time on the bench and therefore eventually looking for a move away from the midlands team.

The news broke on the Claret and Blue podcast this week as Rolinson spoke on the ramifications of Villa improving their defence and what that could mean for their recent captain going into the 2022/23 season.

He said, “Mings, going from captain this season, is not going to want to sit on the bench for the vast majority of next season. So there is going to be these arguments over the next few weeks or months or however long Tyrone Mings is still here. For all we know, the way Villa are operating Tyrone Mings could be gone tomorrow.”

While Mings has been a good servant for the club since he joined in 2019 there is no doubt they could improve the position dramatically and that would mean Mings would have to either become a backup or look for a move away to another team in the Premier League or somewhere else in Europe.

The stats also show that he is a good defender but not at the elite level that Villa will be looking to bring in under Steven Gerrard. According to Fbref, he ranked 9th percentile for pressures, the 15th for tackles, 59th for interceptions, and 54th for aerials duels. His play on the ball doesn’t fit much better
