Folkestone Invicta manager Jay Saunders will let players know their fate on Monday as he prepares for summer rebuild

Jay Saunders is set to get straight to work on letting Folkestone players know where they stand.

Invicta end the Isthmian Premier campaign at Cray Valley this Saturday (3pm) and there’ll be no letting the dust settle.

New boss Saunders has used his first three games in charge to assess the squad and will start speaking to players on Monday as he embarks on the challenge of bringing success to Cheriton Road.

There’s likely to be significant changes to the squad he inherited from former manager Andy Drury.

“Coming in when we did, it’s given us a chance to work with the lads,” said Saunders.

“There’s some of the younger lads I hadn’t seen much of who have done really well, and then there’s others that you’d expect a bit more from that haven’t shown that.

“For whatever reason, it’s not worked there this year.

“Everyone knows there’s going to be changes.

“It’s very rare a new manager goes into a club and just carries on with the same squad. That’s clearly not going to happen.

“It needs changes and it needs a squad we feel we can push forward with.

“When I first came in and introduced myself, I said to them, ‘It’s a clean slate but we’re not silly in here, we all know not everyone’s going to be here next season but hopefully some of you can prove a point and be part of what we’re doing’.

“Once the season’s done, on Monday, I’ll have those discussions with all the players because I feel it’s fair they know nice and early.

“I like to get that side of things done and then we’ll go from there and start bringing players in we feel can do what we need to do.”

Folkestone lost 2-0 to both Bowers & Pitsea and Billericay in Saunders’ first two games in charge, the latter on Good Friday.

But he picked up his first win with a 2-1 success
