Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul: Maverick's woeful flurry of punches remembered

It’s one year on since Logan Paul shocked the world when he stepped foot into the boxing ring to take on Floyd Mayweather in an eight-round exhibition bout at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.

The YouTube sensation managed to last all eight rounds with the man many deem to be the greatest boxer of all time.

Paul certainly shocked many punters who thought he wouldn’t get near the eight-round limit with someone as talented as Mayweather, however, he had a huge advantage.

Not only was he much younger than the retired legend, he was much bigger in size too, if it wasn’t an exhibition, there’s no chance the two could have stepped in the ring together.

He certainly wanted to make a name for himself, so what better way to do it than stepping in the ring with Money? He tried to go one better and take down Mayweather in the opening round!

With little over 10 seconds left on the clock in round one, Paul unleashed a frenzy of punches on the former champion, but he didn’t land a single one.

Mayweather was able to defend the flurry of swinging punches from the YouTuber, seeing the rest of the fight out comfortably.

In terms of the quality, it wasn’t a fight that will live on long in the memories of those who watched it, but it made millions for the fighters, coming in at sixth on the list of biggest fight purses ever.

Over a million fans subscribed to the pay-per-view event, but they didn’t get the spectacle they hoped for.

That moment of madness from Paul will certainly be remembered though, could you imagine the scenes if just one of his manic punches connected?!

He certainly took a risk opening up like that so early on against someone of Mayweather’s class and guile, but he got away with it with as Money opted not to capitalise.
