Who is Mikuru Asakura? Floyd Mayweather's next opponent in upcoming exhibition bout

Floyd Mayweather is returning to the ring to face Mikuru Asakura.

The boxing legend has confirmed that he will fight the Japanese MMA fighter nearly four years after making his first appearance in Japan against Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018.

Mayweather, or ‘Money’ as he’s come to be known over the years, hasn’t fought since his exhibition bout with YouTuber Logan Paul in July 2021.

Here’s everything you need to know about Mayweather’s next opponent:

Mikuru Asakura is a Japanese MMA fighter.

He was born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan on July 15, 1992.

Asakura is currently 29 years old at the time of writing.

He is also known for being the old brother of Kai Asakura.

The two siblings are also popular YouTubers in their own country.

Like his younger brother, Asakura is also a highly accomplished mixed martial artist with 19 victories, 11 coming via knockout.

His record is 19-3 overall, with one no contest.

Asakura currently competes in the featherweight division after signing with Japanese promotion RIZIN Fighting Federation.

He made a name for himself when he defeated former Shooto lightweight champion Takeshi Inoue.

Asakura beat former RIZIN featherweight champion Yutaka Saito in a rematch on December 31 at RIZIN 33 via unanimous decision.

It’s also worth pointing out however that he has no boxing experience whatsoever.

Mayweather’s exhibition bout with Asakura will take place in September in Japan.

The exact date and location has not yet been announced.

We will update you as soon as there is more information available.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mayweather says he doesn’t see Asakura as much of a threat.

He told a press conference: “I know that he believes in his skill, but no fighter that he’s ever been in the ring with is
