Floyd Mayweather tried to stop Amir Khan from retiring so they could 'get it on'

Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather recently tried to lure Bolton-born former world champion boxer Amir Khan away from plans of retirement by unofficially offering him the fight he has tried so hard to secure throughout his career.

Khan revealed Mayweather had said behind the cameras of their recent meet-up that they should ‘get it on’ after the American and the Brit crossed paths in Dubai due to the 45-year-old having an exhibition fight there.

Khan didn’t fold on his retired stance, however, as he reiterated what was publicly expected that he would call time on his illustrious career.

As per The Sun, Khan said: “Floyd said to me ‘Look, we should get it on.’

“And I said ‘Brother, tomorrow I’m going to announce my retirement.’ And he goes ‘No, I don’t think you should’.

“Obviously, pro fighters say to you all your life ‘we should fight each other’ and they keep you on the side, on the bench and I’m like forget that man, I want to be in control of myself.”

With Khan not budging, this seems to bring a close to the Khan/Floyd saga which never has progressed past talks. Even after persistent heavy rumours since 2014, where Mayweather decided against fighting Khan despite him winning the Twitter poll Money posted which would supposedly decide his next opponent.

Khan justified not taking this fight or any other tempting offers by saying he’s going to do ‘what’s best for him’.

“When I call it a day, I call it a day. I don’t not call it a day because someone else is taking control like Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao say now we’ll fight you.

“Waiting around and waiting around for them so I thought nah man, I’ll do what’s best for me.”
