Floyd Mayweather dismisses Mikuru Asakura threat ahead of September RIZIN exhibition bout

Floyd Mayweather doesn’t see Mikuru Asakura as much of a threat ahead of their much anticipated exhibition bout later this year.

Mayweather will return to Japan to take on Asakura in September under the RIZIN Fighting Federation banner.

The 45-year-old ring legend, who was recently inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, went the distance with YouTuber Logan Paul last June.

Asakura, 29, is a professional MMA fighter by trade.

The Far East sensation holds a record of 16-3 in MMA after signing with Japanese promotion RIZIN in 2018.

He currently competes in the featherweight division where he is one of the top contenders at 145lbs.

Asakura beat Yutaka Saito on December 31 at RIZIN 33 via unanimous decision.

However, Mayweather insists that he has never fought anyone like him before.

“I know that he believes in his skill, but no fighter that he’s ever been in the ring with is Floyd Mayweather,” he told a press conference.

“These other guys are just fighters, but I’m Floyd Mayweather. I’m on a different level. I’m special.

“Not just special, very special. This guy is going to come out and give his best, like every and any guy. But I’ve seen every style, so my job is just to go out there be me, have fun and do what I do best.

“I don’t have to watch tape on my opponents, he needs to watch me. I’m the one to watch. Everybody I face is just an opponent. It’s no different from facing Manny Pacquiao or Canelo Alvarez.”
