Floral tributes left outside house as murder probe is launched after death of woman

Floral tributes have been left outside a house in Gorton as a murder investigation continues following the death of a woman.

Police were first called to the scene on Hyde Road at around 11.20am yesterday (Saturday, September 30) to reports of concern for the welfare of a woman. Tragically, a 43-year-old woman died despite the best efforts of paramedics and officers.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.

Forensic officers remain on the scene, with pictures showing the front of one house cordoned off with an officer stationed outside. Police said yesterday that detectives were 'piecing together the exact details of the incident'.

Last night, Detective Superintendent Helen Critchley, from Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team, said: "Firstly, I want to send my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the woman who sadly died today. We have specialist officers in place to ensure they are being updated and supported as we enter the early stages of the investigation.
