Flooding and travel disruption expected for parts of UK as heavy rain sweeps in

The Met Office has warned that heavy rain could cause flooding and travel problems in parts of the UK on Wednesday. A yellow rain warning has been issued for south-west England and Wales from midnight until noon.

The Met Office has said that homes and businesses might get flooded, and power supplies and other services could be interrupted. Bus and train services might also be affected, making journeys longer.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin said the rain will be a cause for concern "because the ground is saturated in places". He added: "That is likely to cause some issues, so there is a warning in place."

The warning reads: "Heavy rain will spread across Wales and southwest England from early on Wednesday morning. Rainfall amounts will widely reach 15 to 25 mm, with as much as 50 to 70 mm over higher ground. With saturated ground in places, this is likely to lead to some disruption. Rain will clear to the east by the afternoon."

On Wednesday, temperatures will be mild reaching up to 13C in some places. But on Thursday, temperatures are expected to drop to between 7C and 10C as wind from the north Atlantic clears away the rain clouds.
