Five youngsters to be given the chance to impress Erik ten Hag on Manchester Utd tour

Erik ten Hag is reportedly set to include five Manchester United youngsters in the club’s pre-season tour which departs on Friday.

United’s pre-season fixtures begin in Thailand with a clash against Liverpool, before heading to Australia to face Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa.

A final summer game with Atletico Madrid in Norway has also been scheduled as Ten Hag looks to analyse as many of his players as possible ahead of his first season at the Old Trafford.

The Dutchman wants to wipe the slate clean, with every first teamer, loanee and academy prospect being given the chance to fight for their place at the club, and the former Ajax coach wants to utilise more young players in his team than his predecessors did.

He is yet to fully decide who will travel with him on tour however, but, according to The Mirror, five notable youngsters will be on the plane, namely Alejandro Garnacho, Hannibal Mejbri, James Garner, Facundo Pellestri and Ethan Laird.

Combined, the five have just 14 senior appearances for United to their name but all are highly regarded, Garner especially following a very successful 18 months on loan at Nottingham Forest where the midfielder was pivotal to Steve Cooper’s side’s promotion to the Premier League.

Right-back Laird also spent last season in the Championship, first with Swansea and then Bournemouth, and will likely factor into Ten Hag’s plans given that his position is one that needs upgrading with both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot struggling of late.
