Five players who could raise Manchester United £157.5m to fund big summer rebuild

Manchester United know there's serious work to do behind the scenes if they want to reinvest into their squad this summer after a dismal campaign. The Europa League looks to be their only way to secure Champions League football this season, but they'll need to win the trophy in what would be a major boost in their battle with PSR.

After announcing losses of £300million over the last three years, the Reds' profit and sustainability position is tight with cost-cutting set to continue at Old Trafford.

When asked about United's transfer stance this summer, Ruben Amorim revealed: "It's simple. To do something, we need to sell players. Our focus now is to win these games. Then we have time to focus on that."

The Reds are set to land a reported fee between £20million and £25million from Chelsea for Jadon Sancho, while Aston Villa have an option to buy Marcus Rashford for around £40million.

The Manchester Evening News has now taken a look at some of the players United could offload this summer with an eye on how much they'd need to generate through the eyes of PSR - with an explainer on that here;

As mentioned above, Villa have an option to buy Rashford this summer and his form since his loan move to Villa Park has been promising. United will hope that continues in an attempt to recoup some much-needed resources ahead of the transfer window.

Should his form dip, that'll cause United a major headache if Villa opt against taking up that option. On one hand, they may be able to offload Rashford to another country, so he doesn't come back to bite them in the future, but on the other it's unlikely a club would be willing to pay the wages or fee the Reds have agreed with Villa.

Rashford already turned down a move to Saudi Arabia
