First look at former Corrie star Suranne Jones in new Netflix drama The Choice

These first-look images show former Coronation Street Suranne Jones playing a newly elected Prime Minister in the upcoming Netflix show The Choice.

Doctor Foster star Suranne plays the fictional role of Abigail Dalton alongside a star-studded cast including French actress Julie Delpy. Julie plays the president of France and the thriller sees the pair having to to work together to overcome a dangerous plot that threatens both nationals, the Sunday Mirror reports.

Pictures from the set show 45-year-old Suranne sporting a chic coat featuring a print of a large red flower as she waves to the crowds alongside Julie whose character, Vivienne Toussaint, is the first female president elected in France. Julie, 54, is best known for her role as Celine in the 'Before' films alongside Ethan Hawke.

There are not too many details about the series, which is expected to air in 2025. However an early synopsis for The Choice reads: "Abigail Dalton, the recently elected British Prime Minister fighting for office thanks to a healthcare crisis. Vivienne Toussaint, played by Julie Delpy, is the first female French President campaigning for re-election no matter what - including tackling France's borders.

"A summit between the two women could be the answer to their prayers if they can agree. But when Dalton's husband is kidnapped and Toussaint is blackmailed, they both face unimaginable choices. Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?"

Also part of the cast is Top Boy star Ashley Thomas who plays Suranne's on-screen husband Dr Alex
