'First four minutes back!' - Man United fans react as Donny van de Beek scores stunning volley

Manchester United fans have shared their delight at seeing Donny van de Beek find the net in the club’s pre-season friendly against Lyon.

The midfielder came on at the break at Murrayfield in Scotland and found the net just four minutes later. The Dutchman let out a big celebratory roar after a tough six months on the sidelines.

Van de Beek missed the whole of the second half of last season due to a knee injury which required surgery. It meant he made just 10 appearances for United in all competitions.

The playmaker - who was not selected in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad - had picked up his injury in United’s first game of 2023, a 3-0 win against Bournemouth at Old Trafford three days into the new year.

He underwent extensive rehabilitation in the subsequent months before returning to team training over the summer. And in his second game of 2023, he managed to find the net with a stylish volley from Dan Gore’s excellent cross.

Van de Beek has not had the impact United fans hoped he would since his arrival in 2020. He’s played just 60 times, of which just 23 have been starts.

He is one of a number of players who could yet leave this summer with club needing to offload squad members to fund new arrivals.

However, supporters were pleased to see Van de Beek find the net given his struggles over the last six months. Many took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
