First Division wrap: Galway strike late against Athlone
With Waterford not in action after their game against Treaty United was rained off, Galway United extended their lead over the Blues at the summit of the First Division after a 1-0 win away to Athlone Town.
David Hurley struck in the 84th minute for John Caulfield's side, who have now won 20 of their 23 games.
Cobh Ramblers, in third, lost 4-3 away to Finn Harps. Sean O'Donnell hit the winner for the Donegal side after 72 minutes. Wilson Waweru hit a brace for Cobh in the opening half but Ryan Flood replied with a double for the hosts as the sides went in level at the break.
Patrick Ferry then had Harps in front on the hour before Mikie Rowe levelled on 67. Five minutes later, O'Donnell struck to give the hosts a sixth win of the campaign, moving them up to eight in the table.
Wexford FC are now sixth following a 3-0 win against Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.
Kian Corbally had the visitors in front inside a minute. Thomas Oluwa on 69 and Eoin Kenny on 90 rounded out a comfortable success.
