Fire crews rescue drivers from cars as roads flooded amid torrential downpours

Heavy rain has led to road closures and seen buildings hit by flooding. Most of South Wales has been hit by a yellow weather warning as torrential downpours hit the region.

Rain was expected to "turn heavier, more persistent and more widespread" this afternoon, from noon, before easing early tomorrow at 8am.

Many parts of Wales are affected, including Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil and Monmouthshire.

Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan will also be hit by downpours.

The A48 is currently closed westbound as a result of a crash between Foelgastell and Llanddarog Junction. A police spokesperson said: "The road is currently closed due to a collision.

"Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey. Please take care driving due to adverse weather conditions."

Elsewhere, Cwmbwrla Roundabout in Swansea is closed again due to flooding. A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "We're at the scene of a flood on Cwmbwrla Roundabout, Swansea.

"The roundabout is flooded and is not passable from any approach. Vehicles are being diverted to Pentregethin Road.

"It is expected to remain closed for some time; please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. We're grateful for your patience."

A pub was also hit by torrential downpours, with floodwater cascading into the building through windows. Parts of the Cresselly Arms are now underwater.
