Fire crews called after blaze breaks out in room at Britannia Hotel

Emergency services were called after a fire broke out in a room at a Britannia Hotel in south Manchester.

The fire service said crews were called to the blaze at a 'commercial property' on Palatine Road in Northenden on Sunday (May 22). The Manchester Evening News understands the incident was at the Britannia Airport Hotel.

The fire broke out in a room on the fourth floor. At least four fire engines rushed to the scene.

Crews were there for more than three hours. It has not been confirmed whether the hotel was fully evacuated.

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "At approximately 12.20pm on Sunday, 22 nd May, four fire engines from Withington, Moss Side and Wythenshawe stations were called to reports of a fire on Palatine Road, in Manchester.

"The fire involved a room on the fourth floor of a commercial property. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel, an electric fan and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire. Fire crews were in attendance for approximately three hours and 15 minutes."

The Manchester Evening News has made several attempts to contact Britannia, though no comment has been provided.
