Fire breaks out on train between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria

A fire has broken out on a train between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria. All lines between the two stations are currently blocked.

Train operator Northern tweeted: "There is a fire on a train between Rochdale and Manchester. Train services through these stations will be cancelled."

A statement on the National Rail website says: "A fire on a train between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale means that all lines are blocked. Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for a comment.

National Rail says lines between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria have now reopened following the earlier fire. But they warn disruption will continue until the end of the day.

A statement on the National Rail website says: "As service recovers, trains running between these stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day."

The fire broke near Monsall Lane in north Manchester at 7.30pm. Firefighters remain at the scene

At shortly after 7.30pm this evening, three fire engines from Philips Park, Manchester Central and Gorton were called out to Monsall Road, Manchester, to attend a train fire on the Rochdale Line.
