Sunday sport: South Africa and France meet in World Cup quarter-final

Ireland captain Johnny Sexton's playing career came to an end with defeat in the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup last night, but he is backing the side to go on to achieve success.

Andy Farrell's side were edged out 28-24 by New Zealand in an epic last-eight clash in Paris.

The game also marked the retirement of Sexton's fellow centenarian, Keith Earls.

The other two quarter-finals take place on Sunday.

Having topped their pool, England will look to book their spot in the last four when they play Fiji, with the game in Marseille kicking off at 4pm.

But all eyes will be on Paris for the 8pm fixture, when hosts France meet defending champions South Africa.

Wales continue their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign later.

Rob Page's side face Croatia in Group D.

Wales are fourth in the group ahead of the game, but a win tonight would see them draw level with Croatia in second.

Kick off in Cardiff is at 7.45pm.

A Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton is among the fixtures in the Women's Super League today.
