Fiorentina president aims sharp dig at Arsenal, Lucas Torreira agent after midfielder’s transfer falls through
Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has warned Arsenal, as well as the agent of Lucas Torreira, that he will get ‘tougher’ and ‘angry’ after being accused of moving the transfer goalposts.
Torreira spent the most recent season on loan at Fiorentina from Arsenal. He made 35 appearances for the Italian club, registering five goals and two assists.
The central midfielder was expected to make the transfer a permanent one. After all, Mikel Arteta doesn’t really have any need for him in north London.
But the transfer collapsed recently, with Torreira’s agent claiming Fiorentina didn’t want to pay the agreed wages or transfer fee.
The representative, Oscar Bentancourt, said: “When we agreed on the €1.5 million loan with Arsenal last summer, I got from the English club that Fiorentina would not pay that money if Lucas played at least 25 games.
“With this, we set the option-to-buy at €15 million, payable in 6 instalments of €2.5m by 2025.
“We had agreed on a (player) contract with Fiorentina for the coming seasons of €2.7 million net a year. Fiorentina, however, now wanted to lower both his salary and the cost of the transfer.
