Fiorentina ‘interested’ in loan deal for Manchester United defender and more transfer rumours

Reports in Italy suggest that Fiorentina are interested in taking left-back Brandon Williams out on loan for a season this summer.

The defender has played just five minutes all campaign, coming on for a late cameo in December's League Cup Fourth Round win over Burnley. The 22-year-old suffered injury for the first half of the season but has been offered almost no game time since recovering.

Williams spent last season out on loan at Norwich City as they were relegated from the Premier League. Williams has 12 months left on his contract albeit has the option for an additional year.

Now, Tutto Mercato (via Inside Futbol) says Serie A could come calling for the youngster. Fiorentina are considering putting forward a loan proposal of a year with a £4.3m option to buy clause amid his additional-year United contract possibility.

Since making his debut in September 2019, Williams has played 51 senior games for United, scoring once and grabbing three assists. He is one of a number of players who could exit this summer.

Erik ten Hag is eager to bring in a centre-forward with Harry Kane his number one target, although United are keen not to get into a drawn-out chase for the England captain. The likes of Napoli ace Victor Osimhen and Benfica star Goncalo Ramos make up the list of fall-back options, too.

A report from 90min claims that Ten Hag is considering bringing in two strikers. Wout Weghorst’s loan deal is not expected to be made permanent while the club are open to offers for Anthony Martial.

The exit of both would see United thin in forward options, a situation Ten Hag would want to avoid.
