FIFA 23: Nintendo Switch version includes no new gameplay features

FIFA 23 was officially unveiled earlier this week with a brand new trailer, fresh from the confirmation that PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe and Chelsea Women’s star Sam Kerr will be on the cover of the game.

However, we have now had confirmation that the latest version in the long-running football franchise will simply have a legacy release on Nintendo Switch.

In simple terms, that means it won’t have any new features, and will essentially be a reskin of FIFA 22.

It’s a major blow for anyone who wants to play the game on Nintendo’s system, especially given that EA is making a raft of changes to gameplay, particularly for those who play on the next generation of consoles.

There will be cross-play for every 1v1 mode in the game – though not Pro Clubs – as well as an updated animation system, a new shooting mechanic that promises to be “risk vs reward”, and a complete overhaul of how free-kicks, corners, and penalties are taken.

Ultimate Team will have a redesigned chemistry system as well as a mode called FUT Moments, while a World Cup mode will follow later on, including both the men’s and women’s tournaments. Women’s Super League teams have also been included in the game for the first time.

The game is set to release on September 30, 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Stadia, PS4 and Xbox One.

The Switch game will come out on the same day but will only feature updated kits and squads, and the addition of new stadiums and the new women’s teams. It will also have a new broadcast overlay package.

But, as per Video Games Chronicle, FIFA 23 Legacy will “feature the same gameplay features and modes from FIFA 22 Legacy Edition without any new development or significant enhancements.”
