FIFA 23: Icons confirmed for World Cup mode

FIFA 23 news is filtering out day by day, with the most recent leak revealing that Icon cards will be featuring in the new World Cup Ultimate Team mode.

The ‘World Cup mode’ is an add-on that has appeared in two previous FIFA’s that allows players to simulate their very own World Cup with all the qualified nations, stadiums and new kits in an offline setting. In addition to this – EA also release a FIFA Ultimate Team add-on which allows you to create an ‘Ultimate Team’ of all the current qualified World Cup nations and battle it out online in order to try and achieve World Cup glory.

In the first World Cup mode which was in 2014, Icons did not feature and were still referred to as legends. EA introduced Icons into the World Cup mode for the Russia World Cup, with the likes of Pele, Ronaldo, Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho. They also introduced four brand new Icon cards that were introduced alongside the World Cup mode, which were Miroslav Klose, Hidetoshi Nakata, Gary Lineker and Bobby Moore.

Fans were left feeling uncertain as to whether Icons should’ve featured at all in the mode, as many thought it ruined the idea of the mode due to how easy it was to obtain them. Nevertheless, leaks have confirmed that Icons will be returning for the World Cup mode in FIFA 23! More information can be found below.

According to reliable FIFA source FUTZONEFIFA, Icons will be returning to the World Cup mode in FIFA 23.

As mentioned previously, this will be met with some mixed responses, as many players believed they were too easy to obtain in FIFA 18 World Cup mode. The simple solution would be to make the Icon cards rarer than the majority of other cards on the game or to introduce them through the idea of SBCs – so we’ll see how EA
