FIFA 22: Player gets banned for inappropriate Ultimate Team name
We all love a game of FIFA.
If you’re a football fan, you’ve likely spent hours on the game either with a friend or focused on your own hardcore play.
One massive feature, though, is FIFA Ultimate Team. This mode is where EA generate the majority of their money from the franchise and is the main attraction of many when playing the game.
Players can mix and match their favourite players from any league and create the team they want to. This, of course, comes with a lot of customisation options for players and their created clubs.
As recent as FIFA 21, players were provided with an overhaul in terms of stadium customisation, so new details are often on the way in new instalments, but one obvious personalisation that’s always been available is the name.
EA have usually been relatively strict on what words players can and can’t use in their club names. Things like profanity and offensive language are understandably banned and there are filters to try and fish out certain words.
Yet, word play is accepted a lot of the time. Clever jokes can provide a laugh for player and opponent before both move on after an online game.
However, Reddit user u/powertoola shared an image of a message they’d received from EA. Apparently, after a review, they found this person’s club name to be worthy of a seven-day ban.
The user had named their club “PuyolPantsDown” clearly making a joke using the name of legendary Barcelona centre-back Carles Puyol.
As mentioned before, names like these often are harmless and go unmentioned, but this case proved to be the other way around. Due to the censors being unlikely to flag this to EA, perhaps it was reported by a human player.
