Fever's Mitchell sets WNBA record for consecutive 20-point games - ESPN

The Indiana Fever's five-game winning streak ended Thursday night, but Kelsey Mitchell's run continued.

Mitchell set the WNBA record with her 21st consecutive game with at least 20 points, tying her season high with 37 in the Fever's 91-85 loss to the Dallas Wings.

She topped the previous record of Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson, hitting the 20-point mark with a layup off an inbound play that started with just 5.4 seconds left in the first half after Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark got tangled up with Bueckers trying to foul.

«I just want to, you know, congratulate my team for making me look good,» Mitchell said. «But I think ultimately it just comes down, obviously, to work. But I don't really take statistics really that serious. So a lot of this stuff is really circumstantial to me. So I [want] to get the dub, and we didn't get that. So I think keep my focus on the right thing, keeping the main thing the main thing is important.»

Mitchell had 21 before halftime, was 9-of-18 from the floor and 4-of-7 from 3-point range, made all 15 of her free throws and added five assists.

She has seven 20-point halves this season, second-most in the league behind Wilson, who entered play Thursday with nine.

It was Mitchell's third career game with at least 35 points on 50% shooting and at least five assists, tied for the most in WNBA history with Wilson, Diana Taurasi and Kelsey Plum. She scored or assisted on 48 of the Fever's 85 points.

Mitchell is the fifth player in WNBA history to attempt 15 or more free throws and shoot 100%.

Her performance Thursday came two days after she exited early in a win at the Toronto Tempo, with coach Stephanie White saying she appeared to have gotten overheated.
