Ferrari throws another win, Race Control butchers it again - Talking points from Italian GP

Max Verstappen took another victory in 2022 when he crossed the finish line in first in Italy. The Red Bull driver and his team got their strategy right on Sunday, getting the advantage over the rest of the grid, especially Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

In second and third, respectively, were Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and George Russell (Mercedes-AMG).

Verstappen's win

Verstappen started the race on the back foot following an engine penalty ahead of the green light. It meant that he had to start in seventh place, but he soon found himself in second behind Leclerc. Verstappen's pace was extremely good, especially given that his Red Bull did not have the same top speed as the Ferraris.

Despite this, he kept a cool head, took advantage when Ferrari pitted Leclerc early, and never looked under threat from anyone once the pit stops were completed. Before the safety car was deployed late in the race, allowing marshals to remove Daniel Ricciardo's stricken McLaren, he held a 16-second advantage over Leclerc.

Though the race ended under the safety car conditions, it didn't take away from Verstappen ruling the roost for the 11th time this year. The win was also his fifth in a row - the first in his career.
