Daniel Ricciardo says McLaren F1 car just 'shut off' laps from Italian GP's end

Daniel Ricciardo has expressed frustration after his McLaren gave up the ghost at the Italian Grand Prix last weekend.

The Australian looked set for a points finish as he was in the eighth position, fending off a challenge from Pierre Gasly. But on lap 47, his race suddenly ended.

Ricciardo pulled his car to the side of the track after "everything shut off," and had to endure another DNF and a fourth consecutive pointless race weekend.

"The car switched off. I don't know the details, but in simple terms, just everything shut off, so I was in Lesmo 1, fourth gear, and then immediately off and then obviously stuck in gear," said Ricciardo, according to the official F1 website.

"I just tried to pull over to the inside of the track as quick as I could. But then, when I got out of the car, even for me to find an opening was difficult, so I was surprised there wasn't an opening sooner, or I guess I passed it when I was trying to pull off.

"Then I found out after that the race ended under Safety Car. If I could have done anything else, I would have, but that was all I could do."
