Fernandes, Shaw, McTominay - Manchester United injury latest ahead of Atletico Madrid fixture

Ralf Rangnick could have a fully fit squad at his disposal for Manchester United's clash with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, with Luke Shaw currently the only doubt.

United will take on the reigning Spanish champions in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at Old Trafford, with the score currently tied 1-1 after an enthralling opening match. Atleti dominated the majority of the game in Madrid after going ahead in the opening six minutes, but United managed to hold on long enough for Anthony Elanga to score with his first touch after coming on off the bench.

United were without Scott McTominay for that trip and were reminded just how quickly a squad can change prior to Saturday's 3-2 victory over Tottenham. It initially looked as though David de Gea would miss out on the match due to Covid-19 but it became apparent that he had tested false positive and could therefore play.

Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw weren't as lucky, however, and both missed out on the match due to contracting the virus, while McTominay sat out another game - this time due to a calf problem. However, all three were back in training on Monday morning ahead of the Atletico match.

Fernandes and McTominay are in contention to return to action, though Rangnick revealed there was still a 'small question mark' over Shaw's availability. The interim manager was joined by another left-back in Alex Telles for his pre-match press conference, which could suggest the Brazilian will be starting in defence.
