Fearne Cotton's 'liberating' retro tech trick brings calm to fans who 'love the idea'

Fearne Cotton is all about finding happy places - she even has a festival named exactly that. And her fans are thrilling at a new trick she has revealed using surprising retro technology to create a zen space.

The presenter and mum took to Instagram to share words of calm and self-care after a busy summer. Her first tip to those who struggle to switch off - be they working mums or anyone else - is to ditch the phone.

The constant texts and emails, social media alerts and more are not helping our heads, she says. For those who think they can't unhand their iPhone or Samsung Galaxy because they're going to miss out on those precious pictures of fun times, she has a top tip.

In the post, Fearne said: "For a short while over the summer I put my phone in a drawer during the day, bought a cheap camera, and felt a lot less stressed. I'm often too available (we all are), fending off texts and emails relentlessly, trying to answer DMs on here and it all gets too much.

"Not only did I feel comfortably detached from all of that during this break but I also revelled in getting photos developed at the end of it. It felt very '90s and exciting. Although work is super busy at the moment with the next @happyplaceofficial festival looming and I can't put my phone in a drawer all day, the camera is staying."

Fans who have normal busy lives - and aren't even staring down the barrel of hosting their own festival at the weekend - agreed with the idea, with many getting excited about that old anticipation of awaiting photographs being developed.
