FC Copenhagen send warning to Manchester United ahead of Champions League re-match

FC Copenhagen's manager Jacob Neestrup is confident his side can pick up three points in the reverse fixture against Manchester United following their narrow defeat at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

United headed into last night's Champions League clash with plenty of pressure on their shoulders having lost their opening two group stage games. After a below par first half, the Reds tweaked matters at the break and looked much better for it.

In the 72nd minute the hosts managed their breakthrough thanks to Harry Maguire's downward header at the back post. Copenhagen had the chance to snatch a point at the death but Jordan Larsson's stoppage time penalty was dramatically saved by Andre Onana to ensure United's first win of their European campaign.

Reflecting on the match in his press conference, Neestrup admitted he was pleased with how his players responded to the threats of United. And he is targeting a positive result in Denmark in a fortnight.

"We have to look at the positives right now," he said. "We nearly took points at Old Trafford but in a couple of hours when I look at it I will probably feel: ‘Ah, we were so close to getting a great point,’ but that is what happens at this level. In a couple of weeks I have a big belief that we can make it very difficult for Manchester United in Copenhagen.

"Over 95 minutes we were totally in the game. I think we had the better of the first half and they started the second half better but the last 15 minutes is equal again. I think we do everything we can today to create that game picture that we want, with and without the ball.
