Fans React After Todd Boehly Completes £4.25bn Chelsea Takeover
Chelsea were handed a damaging setback in the race for Champions League qualification as Wolves held the Blues to a 2-2 draw. Conor Coady's glancing header in the dying embers rescued a point for Bruno Lage's side.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek thought he had opened the scoring for the west Londoners with the first of the Todd Boehly era, though his effort was soon ruled out due to offside. Romelu Lukaku eventually opened Chelsea's account with a penalty moments into the second half.
The 28-year-old, who has struggled to acclimatise to the Premier League since his return in the summer, doubled the Blues' lead just minutes later. But, Francisco Trincão pulled one back for the visitors before Coady found a pocket of space to beat Edouard Mendy in injury time.
Every word Thomas Tuchel said on Southampton vs Chelsea, Azpilicueta, Werner, Lukaku and more
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Thomas Tuchel was pleased with how his side started either half but was left to rue Chelsea's game management. The German boss added by refusing to shower Lukaku with praise, despite turning a corner in his career at Stamford Bridge.
He said: "I think we started both halves very well, controlled the match with a very offensive approach to this game today. A very offensive 5-3-2, we knew about the risks in coverage to avoid counter-attacks. We knew about it, so we needed to be very, very disciplined."
"No, I don't think ownership is a reason for lack of focus, the Blues boss said when asked whether news of the Boehly's successful takeover will give Chelsea greater focus.
