'Fantastic' - Pundit identifies overlooked Manchester United midfielder who deserves chance

Micah Richards believes Scott McTominay is deserving of a Manchester United chance after a brilliant international break with Scotland.

McTominay has been out-of-favour at United since Erik ten Hag took over with the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes preferred options in the centre. However, the 26-year-old has been in great form for his national team.

During the European Qualifiers, McTominay has scored six goals for his country from midfield. In their most recent qualifying clash with Cyprus on Friday night, United's man scored and grabbed an assist as the Scots continued their 100 per cent start in Group A.

Richards believes West Ham United could be a team who comes in for McTominay at some stage but feels the midfielder should be allowed some game time at Old Trafford.

He told The Rest is Football podcast: "I just think he’s a really intelligent, hard-working midfielder who can do a job whatever you tell him.

But there is a player in there, I think he’s fantastic."

Fellow ex-professional Gary Lineker was in agreement with Richards, adding: "I notice Scott McTominay playing and getting in the box a lot. He scored again in this game [vs Cyprus]; he scored a couple in the game first time against Cyprus.

"He’s top scorer in qualifying. It’s nuts, yet he’s not really getting a look in at Manchester United. Someone will go for him surely?"
