Fans spot two former WWE Superstars in new roles on Monday Night Raw

Eagle-eyed WWE fans spotted some familiar former WWE names on Raw last night, during the brawl between Cody Rhodes and Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins.

Rhodes and Rollins clashed on the go-home edition of Monday Night Raw as they prepare to do battle inside Hell in a Cell at this Sunday’s Premium Live Show in Chicago.

As officials tried to separate the two WWE Superstars in a classic pull-apart brawl, some familiar faces were spotted as part of the group trying to break-up the fight between Rhodes and Rollins.

Along with the usual suspects of ‘backstage personnel’ like Adam Pearce, Gregory ‘Hurricane’ Helms and Petey Williams, were former WWE Superstars Curtis Axel and Ariya Daivari.

It had been reported recently that both Axel and Daivari had been bought back to WWE to try out as backstage producers and have been working alongside WWE’s already established agents, by putting matches together across Raw and SmackDown.

Axel began his WWE career as part of the original NXT before debuting on the main roster as a member of the faction Nexus in 2010, under the name Michael McGuillicutty. He’d later change his name to Curtis Axel, in a move to honour his grandfather, Larry ‘The Axe’ Hennig and father, WWE Hall of Famer Curt ‘Mr. Perfect’ Hennig.

Under the family name, Axel would win Intercontinental Championship and Tag Team Title gold, and was briefly managed by Paul Heyman, before he was released by the company in 2020.
