Fans ‘really impressed’ by Emma Raducanu performance despite Iga Swiatek loss

Emma Raducanu is out of the Stuggart Open after a straight-sets loss to world number one Iga Swiatek but fans are still happy with the Brit’s progress. 

Raducanu, who was playing her first professional tournament on clay, fought valiantly and had her chances but Swiatek was ultimately too good. 

Indeed, the Polish star has now won 21 matches and 28 sets in a row as she continues to look unbeatable at present. 

Few expected Raducanu to beat the world number one, especially given it was her first match against a top-10 opponent, but many wondered how she might fare against the ruthless Pole, who is known for making lightwork of her opponents. 

Yet, the US Open champion more than held her own –– breaking the 20-year-old once in the second set and manufacturing a handful of other break-points. 

The Brit has been accused of ‘bottling’ some matches of late, however, fans were quick to applaud the teenager on a more than satisfactory showing. 

One wrote: “I must say, considering it was her first TOP-10 match, I was impressed by Emma Raducanu (even though she was never ahead).”

Similarly, another put: “SO impressed with how Emma Raducanu just played she can leave with her head held high.”

A third said: “Emma Raducanu isn’t playing that bad at all! I’m impressed with her. Iga [Swiatek] is playing ridiculously well at the moment so I’m glad Emma is testing herself like this.”

Despite Raducanu’s admirable effort, Swiatek goes marching on to the semi-finals, where she will face Ludmilla Samsonova.
