Facundo Pellistri recalls 'perfect' Manchester United debut and reflects on Carabao Cup success

Facundo Pellistri admits he and his family will always remember the 'perfect' night in which he made his Manchester United debut.

The 21-year-old made his first competitive appearance for United in January, coming off the bench in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win at home to Charlton Athletic.

Despite having just six minutes plus added-time to impress manager Erik ten Hag, the Uruguayan made an instant impact, showing composure to continue a swift counter-attack in the 90th minute before setting up Marcus Rashford for the second goal of the night.

The assist provided an instant snapshot to United fans of their young star, and despite limited minutes since he looks back on that evening fondly.

"It was incredible because sometimes you make your debut and it's amazing," Pellistri told United's club media team. "But sometimes - as I played only 10 or eight minutes - sometimes you may not touch the ball. But in that case I could touch the ball and assist Marcus so it was a perfect night. Me and my family remember that night."

Pellistri picked up another 20 minutes in the semi-final first-leg at Nottingham Forest, enjoying his contribution to what was a successful cup run. United beat Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final in February to pick up their first trophy in six years and the first of Erik ten Hag's reign.

"[It was] incredible because it was a competition that we won, I have my medal at home so I'm really proud of that moment," the winger said. "We are looking forward to the next trophy."
