Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen have told Manchester United what they want to hear amid Harry Kane transfer decision

Manchester United look set to abandon their Harry Kane pursuit and explore other avenues, and both Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen have provided alternative options.

Erik ten Hag is desperate to add more attacking threat to his squad and relieve the goalscoring burden on Marcus Rashford, with a world-class No.9 long at the top of the Dutchman's summer shopping list.

Several frontmen have been on the club's radar in recent months, but Kane has been clear at the top. The 29-year-old was wanted on the basis of being a ready-made Premier League striker who can score 25-plus goals a season consistently.

Ten Hag is said to have been 'obsessed' with Kane, but others inside the club were wary of dealing with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who remains characteristically stubborn despite his star entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Levy has reiterated that he will not sell Kane to a Premier League rival under any circumstances, and as such, United have been working under the assumption that the deal is a no-go. They have not completely killed their interest, but are putting the work in elsewhere so as to not repeat last summer's Frenkie De Jong saga.

Several other strikers across Europe are of interest, with Rasmus Hojlund's name a constant. The 20-year-old scored 16 times for Atalanta this season and represents a younger option with potential to develop. He joined back up with his Denmark teammates this week, including Reds midfielder Eriksen who seemingly tipped him for a move to Old Trafford.
