Manchester United fans name their Player of the Season as great debut season rewarded

MEN readers have named Casemiro as Manchester United's Player of the Season winner.

Erik ten Hag's side finished fourth in the Premier League table, securing UEFA Champions League football in the process. It proved a successful season for United under the Dutchman, as they also claimed the Carabao Cup against Newcastle United.

There were several strong candidates for Player of the Year, with Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez the nominations. The MEN asked its readers for their views and after more than 8,000 votes there were two clear front-runners.

Brazilian superstar Casemiro took 35.9 per cent of the votes, running out winner after a fantastic debut season. Rashford was the runner-up after netting 29.8 per cent of the votes.

The Englishman scored 17 Premier League goals and 29 goals across all competitions. However, that wasn't enough to beat out last summer's marquee summer signing.

In third was Martinez, who earned 23 per cent of the vote after a fantastic first season at Old Trafford.. Had the Argentinian not missed the final months of the season, that could have been ever higher.

Finally, Bruno Fernandes was fourth on the list with half that amount, 11 per cent. The Portuguese vice-captain was consistent again in midfield without quite hitting his best form.
