Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd chiefs have "discussed internally" signing £57.5m-rated Brazilian

Manchester United have held internal discussions over the possibility of signing Ajax winger Antony, renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

While Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly the number one target for manager Erik ten Hag, it appears as though an attacker from his previous club is also part of talks behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

Well, the Red Devils have been linked with a move for the £57.5m-rated Brazilian in recent weeks, although Romano previously told GiveMeSport that the Dutch club would potentially want more than the €50m (£42m) price tag being bandied about.

It has been suggested that United could look to sign Antony having missed out on Darwin Nunez to Liverpool, with Goal Brazil reporting earlier this month that his representatives have been in Europe to negotiate a potential transfer with United.

The 22-year-old shone under Ten Hag for the Dutch champions last season, scoring 12 goals and providing a further 10 assists in 32 appearances in all competitions for the Amsterdam giants.

The Italian journalist believes that the South American forward is a player of interest for United, and that it is no surprise that they are looking at a potential deal.

He told GiveMeSport: “Of course, Antony is one of the players they are exploring and they have discussed internally. Erik ten Hag is a big fan of this boy.

“The Antony [we see] today is also thanks to the incredible work of Erik ten Hag. So, it’s absolutely normal to explore this possibility.”
