FA Trophy round-up: Wins for Maidstone, Dover, Ebbsfleet and Chatham but Tonbridge and Folkestone go out in second round
Dajon Golding fired Maidstone to victory in their FA Trophy second-round tie at National League South rivals Torquay.
Golding scored twice in six minutes during the first half as the Stones’ long trip to Devon ended in a 2-0 victory.
He finished a goalmouth scramble in the 28th minute and beat keeper James Hamon in a one-on-one for his second.
Maidstone, who’ve lost just once to Torquay in the past nine years, were indebted to back-up goalkeeper Lenny Holden, who made a number of excellent saves.
Holden, deputising for Nathan Harness, was manager George Elokobi’s man-of-the-match.
Forty-four Stones fans embarked on the 450-mile round trip in a crowd of 1,624 at Plainmoor.
Dover Athletic eased into the third round with a 2-0 home victory over Dorchester Town.
Kenny Coker broke the deadlock on the hour mark, pouncing on the loose ball after George Wilkinson’s strike was saved by Gerald Benfield.
A close-range effort from Siju Odelusi confirmed Dover’s progress with eight minutes remaining – a deserved victory for Jake Leberl’s side.
Ebbsfleet made it a hat-trick of Kent winners from National League South after edging Isthmian South East Sittingbourne on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
But Tonbridge couldn’t join them after losing 4-0 at home to a classy Worthing side.
Kofi Anokye-Boadi’s injury-time header saw Chatham win 1-0 at Wimborne Town.
Penalties were looming when Anokye-Boadi met a free-kick in the eighth added minute for the only goal of the game.
Will Fletcher missed a 75th-minute penalty for Wimborne.
Folkestone were beaten by a late goal in a 2-1 home defeat by higher-league AFC Totton.
Jake Hutchinson followed his midweek hat-trick by putting the Isthmian Premier leaders in front before the half-hour mark.
