Exit for 'genuinely class' Leeds defender at 'advanced' stage after Marsch green light – report

Leeds United and Millwall are in ‘advanced’ talks over a season-long loan deal for Charlie Cresswell, according to Football Insider.

Cresswell was a regular in the match-day squad last season under both Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch.

The 19-year-old made his Premier League debut against West Ham in September and was labelled as ‘genuinely class’ by Joe Wainman for his display.

The centre-back made four more top-flight appearances from the bench, the last of which came in Leeds’ dramatic 3-2 win over Wolves back in March.

Football Insider shared a story on Tuesday afternoon after being informed by a Leeds source.

They claimed that talks between Millwall and Leeds over a season-long loan deal are at an ‘advanced’ stage, with Marsch giving the green light to a temporary exit. The Leeds boss is an admirer of Cresswell but doesn’t feel that he is first-team ready just yet.

Some Leeds supporters may not be thrilled to know that Creswell could be heading to Millwall due to the history between the two sides. However, in regards to the defender’s development, a season in the second tier could be just what he needs to catch Marsch’s eye.

Regular senior game time for the first time in his career in a physical league should help Cresswell improve ahead of a potential breakthrough at Elland Road in 2023/24.

Liverpool and Manchester United are also huge fans of the teenager, so it looks as if Leeds have a future star on their hands, making it key that they look to develop him wisely.
