Exciting Man City youngster Dire Mebude told how he can get even better

Brian Barry-Murphy has challenged Manchester City starlet Dire Mebude to be consistent across the season after making a great start to life in the Elite Development Squad.

It's been a summer of change at the EDS with most of the side's important players moving on to the first team, getting loans elsewhere or leaving the club on a permanent basis. However, the new-look young Blues haven't slowed down an iota and have got their Premier League 2 title defence underway in style with two strong performances.

A 3-0 win over Liverpool was followed up with a 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Sunday and in both games Mebude has been the star of the show. He bagged twice against the Reds before then inspiring his side against the Foxes after coming on off the bench and getting them back in front just three minutes later.

Mebude grabbed 11 goals and 18 assists for the Under-18s this season and Barry-Murphy wants him to continue being that decisive in attacking areas for his side. "Obviously had a lot of goals and assists in the Under-18s last year and the challenge for him is to become as consistent at this level as he adapts to the different demands of it," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"He's a very exciting player to watch, he's got a lot of stuff that he can improve on and he knows that but I think the most exciting of all is that he's willing to focus on that and improve his all-round game."
