Ex-Kerry captain John Griffin named as county's new hurling manager

Former Kerry hurling captain John Griffin has been appointed as county senior manager on a two-year term, replacing Stephen Molumphy in the role.

Griffin, from Lixnaw, is the first Kerryman to take charge of the county senior hurlers since Maurice Leahy, the last of whose many stints as manager ended in 2007.

A Kerry senior hurler between 2006 and 2016, Griffin won two Christy Ring Cups with the county in 2011 and 2015, captaining them to the latter.

His former Kerry teammates Seán Maunsell and Aidan Healy will join his backroom team as selectors.

Ex-Waterford hurler Molumphy managed Kerry for three campaigns between 2022 and 2024, narrowly losing the Joe McDonagh Cup final to Antrim in his first campaign but failing to reach the decider in the past two seasons.
