Ewan McAteer finishes sixth in Commonwealth Vault final

Ewan McAteer has finished sixth in the final of the Vault at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The Antrim native, who was appearing in his second final of the games following Northern Ireland's showing in the team all-around, managed a score 13.750.

"I'm very proud of my performance at my second Commonwealth Games," he said afterwards.

"My goal coming out here was to make a final so to achieve that is something I'm so happy with. I really went for a medal in the final and am disappointed to have had a fall on my second vault, but I am walking away from these games with the view that they were a major success."

It follows the silver medal achieved by Rhys McClenaghan on the Pommel yesterday, while Eamon Montgomery finished in fifth in the Floor event. The trio are all set to be involved for Team Ireland at the European Championships in Munich later this month.
