Evi Mackie in marvellous form as she shatters Lanark ASC records at British Summer Meet
Evi Mackie shattered club records and her own personal best times as she competed at the British Summer Meet Championships in Sheffield from July 22-28.
The 14-year-old Lanark Amateur Swimming Club swimmer performed well during the seven-day meet at Ponds Forge International Swimming Centre.
From an outside lane on day one, Mackie won her heat in 17.54:19 to finish sixth in a personal best of just under 20 seconds.
Mackie had two swims on day three, in 200m individual medley and 800m freestyle, finishing sixth in 800m (9.19:42) and seventh in 200m (2.25:61).
Her final swim in the 400m IM on day six saw Mackie seeded 13th in the heats, but qualified with a solid swim to finish seventh in a best-ever mark of 5.07:24.
Coach Karen Kelly said: “Evi was a credit to Lanark ASC and exceeded all expectations.
“It was Evi’s first British Summer Meet and she took it all in her stride.
“She should take great pride in her performances, finishing well above her seeded position in all four events and reeling off four personal best times.
“Evi was top-placed Scot in the 200m IM, 800m free and 1500m free, and shattered her own club records in all four swims.
“She is a shining example to all the young swimmers in our club.”
The British Summer Meet brought the curtain down on the season for Lanark swimmers. They can now look forward to a break before returning for the East Kilbride ASC Graded Meet on September 3, which will provide a good test ahead of the West District Short Course and Relay Championships the following weekend at Tollcross.
