Everything we know so far after boy, 8, shot in head at farm

An eight-year-old boy died after being shot in the head at a farm in Cumbria. The youngster, who was rushed to hospital in an air ambulance from the scene of the incident on Saturday (September 28), died overnight.

Emergency services were called to the remote farm in the Warcop area of Cumbria to reports of a child being seriously injured. Police remained at the scene into Sunday (September 29),

The boy, aged eight, died in hospital overnight, Cumbria Police confirmed in a statement. An investigation into his death has been launched.

Cumbria Police have revealed a number of details regarding the fatal incident in Cumbria. Officers has first been called to the remote farm, in the Warcop area, at around 2.50pm on Saturday.

They received a report that a child had been seriously injured by a firearm at the property. Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.

The firearm was seized by officers, and the eight-year-old boy was taken to hospital by air ambulance. He suffered serious and life-threatening injuries to his head and face.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Cumbria Police confirmed the youngster died in hospital overnight.

A man, aged in his 60s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH. He remains in police custody but is now under arrest on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

We know the farm is situated off the A66. Locals have since described seeing officers and paramedics 'purposefully marching' across the small field not long after the shooting.
