‘Everything I hear’ - Gold reveals interesting Bastoni message coming ‘out of Spurs’

Tottenham Hotspur feel their transfer target Alessandro Bastoni could be the long-term successor to their former centre-back, Jan Vertonghen. 

This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold as he issued the latest on the Italian’s future on the latest episode of the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast.

It is believed the Inter Milan centre-back is high up on Antonio Conte’s wishlist for this summer’s window but it is said they are needing to persuade the 23-year-old to join.

Reports suggest Bastoni is still unsure over whether this is the right time for him to make the leap and leave his homeland and switch to the Premier League.

And amid these reports, Gold believes those within Spurs do feel Bastoni would potentially need to be given more time to find his feet than Romero did this season:

“And even he as a target is an interesting choice. Because from everything I hear out of Spurs, they’re not expecting him to be like a Romero type.

“He’s not an aggressive front-foot defender. They see him more as a potential heir to Jan Vertonghen that may be more laid back kind of languid defender who’s very good on the ball.

“And perhaps that’s another aspect to it, perhaps, you know, Bastoni knows that and he knows that his adaptations of Premier League might be slightly slower than Romero’s. And maybe that’s a slight concern at this stage.”

It is apparent Spurs are facing a big challenge in convincing Bastoni to make the move with the money involved to bring him to N17 not believed to be an issue.
